CNN援引美国太平洋司令部夏威夷联合情报中心前任行动主任卡尔·舒斯特上校的话称，中方有可能根据其在南海的领土主张提出打捞权。他进一步揣测道：“中国将尝试使用潜艇及深潜潜水器对F-35C进行定位和调查。”
"China will try to locate and survey it thoroughly using submarines and one of its deep diving submersibles," said Carl Schuster, a former director of operations at the US Pacific Command's Joint Intelligence Center in Hawaii.
The $100 million warplane impacted the flight deck of the 100,000-ton aircraft carrier and then fell into the sea as its pilot ejected, Navy officials said. The pilot and six sailors aboard the Vinson were injured.
“This is our most sophisticated aircraft, it has all kinds of electronics onboard that our adversaries would love to get a hold of,” Cancian said. “We need to make sure they don’t.”
The Navy has not disclosed where Vinson was in the South China Sea when the mishap occurred, but the carrier strike group was exercising with the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group at the time.
